![]() ![]() The next 2 years were spent in the 12:00 league, allowing for more velocity and more spin/movement, before moving to the full windmill league. And THIS IS THE BASIS for my PROGRESSIVE instruction.Learn to throw from 9:00.Then take up to 12:00.THEN progress to full windmill AFTER you learn to thrown the ball underhand USING a PROPER I/R delivery. I spend a year throwing as hard as I could from 9:00. There was a 9:00 league.Referring to the arm swing not higher then 9:00.And there was a 12:00 league.Where the arm swing was limited to 12:00 above the head. And there was a "full" league where windmill was allowed.Īfter initially being taught the full windmill pitching motion as a 17yo by a pair of pitching twins, Marshall and Marty Granados. At 18yo, I was forced to enter the local mens leagues as a "9:00" pitcher. When the city's recreation department began to offer adult mens fastpitch leagues to it's masses, they took on a developmental strategy. Their pitcher being a leap and drag but the reply you gave just wasnt fitting for a L and D pitcher. I have received questions from folks when they too were confused about your reply to something. Many of your responses have left me scratching my head and thinking 'This is something a step style pitcher would do, not a Leap and drag pitcher'. I do not consider myself an expert on step mechanics. I teach two wind ups that are step style pitches, thats the brunt of it. I will also add that there have been MANY pitchers that have had tremendous careers as a step style pitch. I will be happy to refer any questions on step style pitching to you, I have no p[roblem with that. The correct advice for a stepper can be the wrong advice for a L and D pitcher. You should let people know that you are referring to step style pitching and not leap and drag. So why should anyone give any consideration to anything you say? ![]() I consider the source and in this case, there is no source. I would think that would be an accomplishment one would be proud of. You have said you have been an instructor for many years and have sent hundreds to college on scholorships. Arent you going to give any credit to our servicemen in the submarines that came up with these wind ups? Baseballs submarine style pitch / wind up and the softball submarine wind up were developed by pitchers in WW II because they did not have any room overhead for the full wind ups. The "12:00", or "half circle" wind up isn't some mysterious or dangerous delivery like the full windmill delivery. You don't open during the front side OR backside upswing.Īs noted in the past here.More then ONE of us were actually forced to use the half circle wind up in leagues before full windmill was allowed, as fast pitch was being introduced as a sport for the masses back in the 70's.The full windmill was considered too advanced for people beginning to play the sport, as the half circle put a limit on the velocity.īack then. The pivot foot had to STAY IN CONTACT WITH THE MOUND UNTIL THE BALL WAS RELEASED.Which also limited speed. And is why "step style" was the "norm" back in the day.Until ASA changed the rule to allow pivot foot push-off and drag.Īnd, are you certain yuo are not talking about 'modified pitch' rules? It sure sounds like it. Of course, I realize your "drama queen" posts usually have more to do with promoting your books then anything else.Which is fine with me.I don't really care where or "how" you promote them. If you're worried about the safety of the mechanics YOU PROMOTE, maybe you shouldn't post PUBLIC video's of them. ![]() Are you taking about the PUBLIC VIDEO YOU POSTED ON YOU TUBE of "your submarine wind-up"? ![]()
